10 & UNDER TENNIS

Explorers

  • Ages 5-6 years old
  • Recommendation: 1-2 days/week  – 1  Hour
  • Court: 36′ Red Court
  • Ball: Red Felt

Explorers is the most recent addition to the REAL TENNIS program line up.  This program is based on Tennis Whizz which was created in the United Kingdom in conjunction with Evolve 9.   Tennis Whizz is the most complete pre-school tennis program. Classes are led by an instructor who takes children through fun drills and games to develop the fundamental athletic skills required to be successful in any sport.

Red 1

  • Ages 6-7 years old
  • Recommendation: 1-2 days/week  – 1  Hour
  • Court: 36′ Red Court
  • Ball: Red Foam, Red Felt  

Divided into two levels and designed for beginner players ages 6-7.  Red  1 classes are the perfect opportunity for children to learn the “FUNdamentals” of tennis.  Activities focus on building Agility, Balance and Coordination skills (The ABC’s), while developing the on-court skills needed to serve, rally, and score.  Prior to graduating to the next stage of the program Junior Future Stars or Red 2 these 8 & Under players will be able to demonstrate understanding of basic technique and maintain that technique during rallies with peers.

RECREATIONAL

Red 2

  • Ages 8
  • Recommendation: 1-2 days/week  – 1  Hour
  • Court: 36′ Red Court & 60’ Orange Court
  • Ball: Red Felt & Orange low compression  

In Red 2, players are preparing to make the transition to the 60’ Orange court when turning 9 years old. They have demonstrated a solid understanding of basic ground stroke and serve technique as well as various grips and footwork patterns.   Players are both physically and mentally prepared to begin work on the situational aspects of the game.  Players are introduced to the larger court space, a faster ball, and new concepts of forward and backward movement that come with Orange court play.  Upon completion of Red 2, players will move into Orange 1

Orange 1

  • Ages 9-10
  • Recommendation: 1-2 days a week – 1.5 Hours
  • Court: 60′ Orange Court
  • Ball: Orange low compression

Orange 1 is for both beginner and intermediate 10U players ready to play on a slightly larger court.  The classes are designed to continue building athletic skills while learning or refining the skills necessary to serve, rally and score.   Before moving to Developmental ,these players will demonstrate an understanding of proper technique and maintain that technique during point and match play.  Upon completion of Orange 1, players will move into Developmental.

Developmental

  • Ages 11-14
  • Recommendation: 1-2 days a week – 1.5 Hours
  • Court: Full Court
  • Ball: Combination of Orange/Green Dot and Yellow

At this stage of the Real Tennis pathway, the children have indicated a preference for tennis as one of their primary sports.  At the beginning of each session coaches will assess the players and group them based on ability.  They are learning to become actively engaged in their own development, and their competitive interests are rising.  This group is fundamentally sound in both movement and technique and beginning work on more specific patterns of play utilizing the larger court space.   Dynamic balance, experimentation with different tactics and strategies and early development of “weapons” are all part of the Developmental players’ reality.  Upon completion of this program  players will move into Competitive.

Competitive

  • Ages 13-17 Years Old
  • Recommendation: 1-2 day a week – 1.5 Hours
  • Court: Full Court
  • Ball: Yellow

This program is ideal for intermediate players ages 13-17.  Practices are held place on the full court and use the yellow ball.  Each session consists of technical, tactical and fitness training.  Coaches assess the players and divide into developmental levels to focus on specific skills. Upon completion of Competitive, players will move into Advanced.

Advanced

  • Ages 14-17 Years Old
  • Recommendation: 1-2 day a week – 2 Hours
  • Court: Full Court
  • Ball: Yellow

This is an intense clinic for middle school aged players who are competing at the District or Sectional Level and high school aged players that are competing at the varsity level.  There is a heavy emphasis on point play and game based drills.  Players at this level should be technically sound as tactics and strategy is heavily focused in this clinic.  The clinic will have progressive based drilling in order to work on the intricate details that make up a players technique.   Players should have solid technique.

PERFORMANCE

Junior Future Stars

  • Ages 8
  • Recommendation: 1 day a week – 1.5 Hours
  • Court: 36’ Red Court
  • Ball: Red Felt & Orange low compression

In JFS, players are preparing to make the transition to the 60’ Orange court.  They have demonstrated a solid understanding of basic ground stroke and serve technique as well as various grips and footwork patterns.   Players are both physically and mentally prepared to begin work on the situational aspects of the game.  Players are introduced to the larger court space, a faster ball, and new concepts of forward and backward movement that come with Orange court play.   At this stage of development, players are required to commit to attend the group classes twice weekly. Upon completion of JFS players will move into Future Stars.

Future Stars

  • Ages 9-10 Years Old
  • Recommendation: 1 day a week – 1.5 Hours
  • Court: 60′ Orange Court
  • Ball: Orange low compression

  • Ages 11-12 Years Old
  • Recommendation: 1 day a week – 2 Hours
  • Court: Full Court
  • Ball: Green Dot and Yellow

This is an intense clinic for tournament level players ages of  11-12.   Participants must be actively competing at the District Level tournaments.  This clinic covers a combination of technical, tactical and strategies.   Academy is for players who have the desire to compete at the Sectional level and the Collegiate level.  Upon completion of Academy players will move into Performance.

Performance

  • Ages 13-17 Years Old
  • Recommendation: 1 day a week – 2 Hours
  • Court: Full Court
  • Ball: Yellow

Juniors at this age should have a strong  Sectional Ranking in the Middle States and have a full tournament schedule.   The clinic will have progressive based drilling in order to work on the intricate details that make up a players technique.  Players should have solid technique.  A combination of dead ball,hand feed drills and point play is emphasized.
